Every beginning is small and that was also the case with the mountain town of Zell am See.<\/p>

Originally, Zell am See was a market town and was called "Zelle im Pinzgau". Presumably because the town soon spread out along the shores of Lake Zell and quickly became the heart of the entire region. The beginning and decisive factor for tourism in Zell am See was the construction of the railway line in 1875.<\/p>

The route led through Zell am See and the town became known as a jewel of relaxation between the mountains and the lake thanks to this important transport connection. The town has been called Zell am See since 1810 and is now home to around 10,000 people.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

At first it was winter sports, especially skiing, that encouraged people to travel to Zell am See. But Zell am See also offers many options in summer, such as varied beaches and outdoor pools around Lake Zell, a wide range of water sports, hiking trails and cycle routes of varying difficulty levels.<\/p>\n

A special highlight all year round is the Schmittenh\u00f6he. In just a few minutes you can reach the Schmittenh\u00f6he cable car from the town. The modern Porsche Design gondola takes you to the highest point of Zell's local mountain. The Schmittenh\u00f6he is a popular place for active holidaymakers. In winter you can ski directly from the mountain into the town, in summer the hiking trails start right behind the pedestrian zone.<\/p>\n

It is not for nothing that the Schmittenh\u00f6he is also called the Panorama Mountain. The breathtaking view from the Schmittenh\u00f6he of the small mountain town, Lake Zell and over 30 three-thousand-meter mountains is fantastic.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    Since 1968, there has been a close collaboration with the neighboring town of Kaprun. This makes sense, of course, because skiing was first opened here on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier in 1965. Together, they promoted lake and snow all year round under the name "Europa Sportregion".<\/p>

    This offer was unique and is still one of the region's most well-known features. Today, Zell am See-Kaprun is a year-round tourist region - rooted in tradition and history, yet with an urban flair and a high level of international recognition.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    • Town Hall \u2013 Rosenberg Castle:<\/strong> One of the most famous landmarks of Zell am See was built in 1583 and named after its builders Karl and Hans Rosenberger. In 1970 it was bought by the city and adapted as a town hall.<\/li>
    • Vogt Tower:<\/strong> This tower is one of the oldest buildings in the city. Today it houses the city museum with many different special exhibitions, such as \u201cPorsche Design\u201d.<\/li>
    • City fountain:<\/strong> The town fountain is located directly on the town square, the heart of the old town of Zell am See. If you walk around the fountain, you will learn about some important events in Zell's town history.<\/li>
    • Parish Church:<\/strong> The church, along with the Vogtturm, is the oldest building in Zell am See. In the church you will find beautiful wall paintings and it is also worth taking a look at the altar from the neo-Gothic period.<\/li>
    • Hundertwasser fountain:<\/strong> The Austria Fountain by the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser is located directly on the lake next to the Grand Hotel. The colorful Austria Fountain was dedicated to the nine Austrian federal states and each of the nine columns represents one of them.<\/li>
    • Ferry Porsche Congress Center:<\/strong> The Ferry Porsche Congress Center is the hotspot when it comes to events in the region. The building has space for 1,200 people in its versatile rooms. Everything from small conferences to large events takes place here.<\/li>
    • Art on the mountain and Elisabeth Chapel:<\/strong> These two sights are located on the local mountain of Zell am See - the Schmittenh\u00f6he. Art on the Mountain is a year-round art exhibition. In total there are 24 different oversized wooden sculptures along the hiking trails. At the highest point of the Schmittenh\u00f6he is the Elisabeth Chapel, which was built in honor of Empress Elisabeth and was inaugurated on the 10th anniversary of the Empress's death.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
